Ferro
Ferrous metals (and their alloys) contain iron as main element. Cobalt, nickel and gadolinium are also part of this group, thanks to their magnetic qualities.
Non-ferro
Non-ferrous metals do not contain iron. Neither do their alloys have iron as a main component. Examples are copper, zinc, aluminium, bronze and brass.
Both types of metals can be separated from one another during the production process by using magnetic applications.
